Eligibility Requirements

We’re always looking to welcome new volunteers to join our foundation! If you and your pet share a passion for helping others, you can become part of our therapy program team. We’re here to guide and support you every step of the way. Our team will help prepare both you and your dog to make sure you're ready for your first visit and beyond.

Eligibility Requirements

HUMANS:

  • Must be at least 1 year old at time of certification.
  • Must be well-mannered, non-reactive, and demonstrate strong obedience skills.
  • Must pass the BTLF Therapy Dog Evaluation.
  • Must have a current health certificate from a licensed veterinarian.
  • Dogs must not be currently in heat, or recovering from surgery or illness.

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must complete BTLF orientation and safety training.
  • Must pass a background screening if required by a partnering facility.
  • Must commit to upholding BTLF’s standards of excellence and safety.
